Cataracts in Dogs and Cats

This occurs when the lens of the dog’s eye becomes opaque and loses transparency; appearing cloudy. When the lens is clouded, it prevents light from passing to the retina, which can cause vision loss.

Symptoms

  • Eyes appear cloudy or bluish-grey.

Causes

It is caused when there is a disturbance in the protein structure of the lens, where the proteins and protein fibres clump together and prevent light from passing through.

Treatments

Surgery is the only way to remove cataracts.
