Ancient European Healer
The Maltese is one of thee most ancient breeds around today. These little beauties were made famous by various poets and artists in the very early cultures of the Romans, Egyptians and the Greeks.
The Greeks adored the Maltese so much that they would build tombs for their beloved pets. They were also seen as prized possessions to many European cultures too as they believed that these little dogs had healing powers. If someone was ill, they would place a Maltese on the pillow of the person who was sick so that they could be healed by the dog. Still to this day, the Maltese is used as a therapy dog for many people around the world. No wonder they are being used to help people, they are so darn cute!
The Maltese make for great family pets, however they do not do well in homes were there are toddlers as this breed is very small. Although they are very intelligent dogs, they are quite difficult to potty train so it is important to be patient when training your little Maltese.
If you have other pets in your home and you are looking to add a little Maltese to the mix then here is some great news…they are very friendly with other animals that they meet and they want to make friends with anyone who comes into contact with them.
